Hi folks! Life got busy, and I didn't have the energy to be creative. Then I hit such bad “writer’s block” that I had to take a big break. I’m back now!

Every place holds energy and memories. Very few places are “dead” without any lingering energy from the history of their existence. Folks in Europe and First Nations People are used to this, and the energy of a place is something to be aware of, but not always spooky or surprising. On the other hand, the descendants of European Americans seem to be constantly taken off guard when the place that they reside holds memories, energy, history, or ghosts. As though the world is static around them, and how dear anything reminds them of their own short trivial existence? If the tone you are picking up from this is “silly mortals–I shake my head,” then we are on the same page.

Ghosts are memories that remain in a place, and when they come from a particular person or being, they are part of the soul or psyche that is hanging around still. These are the kinds of ghosts that can generally be reasoned with. In fact, most of them want to be reasoned with and will engage in a lot of shenanigans to be noticed. However, ghosts aren’t always people. Sometimes a place can produce them out of the trauma that has occurred in a place. Those kinds of ghosts are a lot more difficult to dispel and impossible to reason with. Ghosts that stick around after someone has died are usually from unfinished business. It can be that either the dead person cannot move on because of a lack of acceptance of their own death, or it can be that the living have not accepted their death and will not let them rest.

Hauntings can be from ghosts, but also from a place holding memories. Sometimes, that is from a location being viewed as a sacred space. The space holds on to the energy and memory of worship. Locations of spells will also have a lingering energy/memory/haunting. The more powerful the spell/worship, the more powerful the haunting. A space can also be haunted by horrible events, such as a murder, a massacre, or a rape. Those are the places that take your breath away. You can be walking by the Saint Croix and immediately stop, struck by the energy of the place and the sense of tragedy and loss. Due to the violence of history, there are many places that are very haunted, and it's nearly impossible to bring back balance and peace.

As always, these are some raw thoughts that feed into the world of the book series. Let me know your thoughts and questions in the comments below!
